As a non-fiction writer, I’ve done it all – written books, articles, essays, op-ed pieces, columns, profiles, and all manner of corporate writing – from speeches for senior executives to annual reports. I’ve enjoyed the pleasures of travel writing and cultural reporting, reviewing films, art, restaurants and books.
For a number of years I served as President of the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA), the largest non-fiction writers group in the U.S, and helped to transform what for decades was a New York-centric organization into a national one.
With the arrival of digital photography, I turned a hobby into a passionate professional pursuit, one that has augmented my journalism as well as stand-alone fine art photography.
I’ve received numerous awards for my work, including:
2002: Literary Medal of Honor, Veteran Feminists of America
1998/1999: President, American Society of Journalists & Authors (www.asja.org)
1995: Literary Residency, Virginia Center for the Creative Art
1991: Literary Residency: Virginia Center for the Creative Arts
1984: Recipient: New York Women In Communications: Outstanding Members Award
